Candle Tea Update The 2017 Candle Tea was different from most years.  At the last minute, volunteers were getting sick.  But the Lord provided strength, stamina, and “last minute and flexible” volunteers to replace those who called in ill. Everyone working together is what accomplished the Tea. In all, 526 children and 207 adults attended for a total of 733.  The craft and bake sale provided the needed funds to support the Candle Tea with an extra $610 which was given to the Organ Fund. The joy and excitement of those who came and the fellowship among volunteers was priceless. Thank you for sharing the Lord’s love with others. 2018 dates are December 5, 6, and 7, so please plan to volunteer.       Aging Well Conference To Be Held April 7 A conference on Aging Well will be held April 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Clemmons Moravian Church. Cost is $15. The session will include workshops on aging, memoir writing, healthcare system navigation, healthy living, the impact of the opioid epidemic, and self-help for caregivers. The afternoon session will feature the Cherry Street Ensemble. Registration information is  at www.moravian.org/board-of-cooperative- ministries/2018-aging-well-conference/. Cleaning and Decorating Graves in God’s Acre March 31 All church members are encouraged to help clean and decorate graves in God’s Acre on Saturday, March 31. Men, women, children and youth should meet at the church at 8:30 a.m. or at God’s Acre at 9 a.m. to clean and decorate sections 3P and 3Q in the old section along the picket fence. Look for Ardmore’s sign.  Greenery, fresh flowers, scrub brush, bucket and bleach are needed if you have them.  If you have flowers or greenery to donate, please bring them to the church parking lot by 8:30 a.m. Questions? Please contact Nancy Crouse at 336-765-9967. Children's Activity: March 24: Easter Egg Hunt and Craft Activities at Calvary Moravian Church, 10 a.m. to Noon.  Women's Fellowship News Day of Prayer: Many thanks to all church members who provided a warm welcome to 120 guests at our Day of Prayer on Feb. 28. The Coffee Hour refreshments and decorations were exquisite, according to one attendee from Salemtowne. The Rev. Chaz Snider delivered an inspiring message at his first Day of Prayer service. Blessing Box: The Blessing Box has proven to be a much needed ministry in our community since its installation in October. The Women’s Fellowship will refill the box on Wednesdays and Sundays, but anyone may put food in or take items at any time. It is a true blessing to the people who take from it as well as those who fill it. Our hope is that it will continue to bless our neighbors and inspire other churches to provide similar service to those who need it. We want to thank Salemtowne residents for the knitted items, scarves and hats that were donated during very cold months.      Compassion Fair to Be Held March 24 Looking for volunteer opportunities, or want to learn more about service programs in Ardmore? Ardmore Moravian Church Blessing Box Our Father's Table Food Pantry and Clothing Closet of Ardmore United Methodist Church Ardmore UMC Boy Scout Troop Trustee News Update Organ Renovation In April 2015, the congregation approved the $92,000 organ renovation, with $60,000 of the cost being a "second mile challenge" to the congregation. As of February 27, 2018, the challenge has been met except for $1,403. Outside Digital “Bulletin” Sign  In 2016, after discussing the purchase of a digital sign, the Board tabled the action due to the second mile challenge for the organ renovation. In 2017, when donors expressed interest in contributing toward a sign, the Board began the process of obtaining design drawings and estimated costs. Since the church is on a corner, the sign will need two panels for visibility from both directions. The cost of two panels, installation materials, placement of the footings for the sign, and dedicated computer for the software, is estimated to cost $30,000. This is a reduced cost, thanks to Ebert Sign Company’s willingness to donate the labor for installing the panels. In December 2017, the Joint Board approved the project.  Thanks to the generosity of several donors, $23,500 has been received for this project, leaving an estimated $6,500 as a second mile challenge to the congregation. Provincial Share In 2013, Church Council requested the Board to discuss with the Provincial Elders Conference the accuracy of the numbers representing Ardmore’s “historical ability to pay” its Provincial Share. Throughout these intervening years, Ardmore paid 95% of the “official” Provincial Share amount.  In February of this year, a final attempt to get the balance reduced failed and the $10,649 “in arrears” was paid. Changes in Staff   Since our last newsletter, the following staff changes have occurred: Pastor: Reverend Charles “Chaz” J. Snider, III became our full time pastor on June 11, 2017.  Chaz is a life-long Moravian, having grown up in the Little Church on the Lane Moravian Church in Charlotte, NC.  He and his wife Michaleh have three children – Christopher, age 14; Abby, age 12, and Sara, age 4. Chaz graduated from Appalachian State University, earned a Master of Divinity degree at Gordon- Conwell Seminary, and completed a graduate certificate in Moravian studies at Moravian Theological Seminary. He has served as Youth and College Ministries Director at Little Church on the Lane, Director of Middle School Ministry at Covenant Presbyterian, and Director of Youth Ministry at Harrison United Methodist Church. Ardmore is Chaz’s first pastorate. Michaleh is volunteering as Ardmore’s Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministry. Accompanist: In May 2017, Lauren Willard accepted the position of organist at Clemmons Moravian Church. In June 2017, Chris Heckman joined our staff as Accompanist and Digital Media Content Advisor. He obtained a B.M. in Music Composition at Florida State University, a M.F.A. in Film Music Composition at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA), and a Ph.D. in Music Composition for Visual Media at the University of California. In addition to his responsibilities at Ardmore, he is a professor at UNCSA.  He is a composer of music for film, television, video games, theatre, sacred music and concert music.  He plays the organ, piano, keyboard, clarinet, saxophone, flute, guitar, bass guitar, accordion, and sings. The Board contracted with Jimmy’s Cleaning Service for custodial services. 2018 Financial Status The first two months of 2018 have been tough financially for the GENERAL OPERATING FUND, with contributions down and expenses increased.
